for Etsy sellers

Craftybase became Stocksmith. Here's what that means for you.

If you've used Craftybase for years, you probably noticed the emails: on July 1, 2026, the product formerly known as Craftybase renamed itself Stocksmith. Same team, same software, new name — and, more importantly, a new audience. The homepage no longer mentions Etsy, Schedule C, or taxes anywhere. It's now built for "cosmetics brands, food producers, bakeries, and small-batch manufacturers."

What actually changed

The rebrand blog post frames it as "the customer became a manufacturer" — Stocksmith is chasing bigger operations with Shopify, Amazon, and Faire inventory sync. If you're a solo Etsy seller making candles or jewelry in a spare room, you're not who the new homepage is talking to anymore, even though the underlying product still works for you.

The pricing, as it actually stands today

So a tax report from the rebranded product runs ~$588/year minimum (Studio, billed annually) — and that's before you hit real order volume, where the price climbs fast.

To be fair to Stocksmith: its bill-of-materials and recipe-COGS engine is genuinely excellent and more mature than ours — 4.6/5 from 245 reviews, 15 years of development. If you're running a multi-channel manufacturing operation with real production runs, it may still be the right tool. This page is about the narrower case: a solo or small Etsy shop that mainly wants its taxes handled without paying manufacturer-tier prices.

What we do differently

CottageLedger is built for exactly the segment Stocksmith is moving away from: one Etsy shop, handmade products, a Schedule C to file. Upload the CSV statements Etsy already gives you (no API connection required — which also avoids Stocksmith's documented issue where its Etsy API pull "performs a best-effort attempt to match fees to orders" and can misalign shipping-label timestamps). Get every fee itemized, true per-product cost from your own material recipes, and a Schedule C report mapped to the real IRS form — for $79, once, per tax year. No $49/mo floor, no order-line caps, nothing that renews without you noticing.
